Introduction as a Utah Nature Photographer
Look at the world through my lens
As a nature photographer, I've had the privilege of witnessing breathtaking beauty here in Utah. It is unlike any other place in the world. Through the lens of my camera, I've captured fleeting moments of magic that are truly spectacular.
But my journey as a photographer is about more than just taking pictures - it's about embracing this beautiful world that we all live in and appreciating it everywhere we go.
In this blog post, I want to share with you four things that I value deeply as a nature photographer. These values not only shape the approach to my work, but also the way I interact with the world around me. From the profound connection I feel with nature to the responsibility I carry as an advocate for conservation, each of these tenets guides me on my journey as a photographer.
Conservation Advocacy
I start with this one because it is so important. The protection of natural habitats and wildlife through my images and actions is what makes being a nature photographer so crucial. Some environmental challenges facing Utah are habitat loss, water scarcity, and impacts of climate change. Ways you can help: support local conservation organizations, volunteer for habitat restoration projects, and advocate for environmental policies!
Personal Growth and Self-Discovery
The opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery that comes from spending time in nature is something that I value as a nature photographer. Nature connects with the soul, and it has become healing to mine. An experience of mine that ignited my passion for nature photography was when I traveled around Northern and Southern Utah for a waterfall shot. Immersing myself in Utah's landscapes helped me connect with nature on a much deeper level then I ever thought was possible.
Capturing Moments
The ability to freeze moments in time and preserving fleeting scenes is special. Whether it's wildlife or landscapes, capturing moments as a nature photographer is almost like therapy for me, as crazy as it sounds. They serve as visual memories of my adventures and experiences in nature, and I can relive these moments over and over again. Composition, lighting, and timing are vital in capturing these moments as they capture the spirit and atmosphere of a particular location.
Connection with Nature
The opportunity to immerse yourself with nature and develop a deep connection with the environment you photograph is special. Spending time outside with nature is proven to not only help reduce stress, but improving mental-health. As a nature photographer who loves hiking, I strongly recommend the Stewart Cascade Falls trail, particularly in the fall season. The leaves are beautiful oranges and reds, and the waterfall is truly incredible and makes the hike worth it.
